Which one do you need?
The split is between material sold by the box for a given coverage, and material sold as pieces of a known size. Flooring takes the square feet or square metres printed on the carton and rounds up to whole boxes. Tile works from the size of one tile plus the grout joint, which is what actually decides how many fit, and only then converts to boxes if you tell it how many are in one.
